Asian Diaspora On Screen

Asian Diaspora On Screen

From classic independent titles to mold-breaking new releases, discover the rich and nuanced stories of Asian peoples' migration all over the globe.

We've partnered with the Dartmouth Asian American Studies Collective (DAASC) to program a weekly series highlighting the migrations of Asian peoples all over the globe. Classic independent films, such as Mina Nair's Mississippi Masala and Ramin Bahrani's Man Push Cart, join mold-breaking recent releases Return to Seoul and Farha for a line-up that is both expansive and well-rounded. The Asian Diaspora on Screen series closes with a special presentation of Cecil B. DeMille's 1915 silent film, The Cheat, starring Sessue Hayakawa, the first actor of Asian descent to achieve stardom in the US and Hollywood's first true male heartthrob. The film will be presented with live keyboard accompaniment by Upper Valley virtuoso Bob Merrill.

The series will run on Thursday evenings at 7 pm throughout the term.

Programmed in collaboration with the Dartmouth Asian American Studies Collective.
