Tribute to Pixar

Films with Live Guests

Directors, actors, producers, documentary subjects and other film industry guests join the audience in conversation following these screenings, for a unique theater experience.

This term we are excited to welcome director Almudena Carracedo with her documentary The Silence of OthersBorn in Madrid, Spain in 1972, Carracedo began her career in the USA where she directed and produced her Emmy-winning debut film Made in L.A., a moving profile of three immigrants working in the garment district. In 2012 she returned to Spain to begin work on The Silence of Others, which follows victims of Spain's 40-year dictatorship under General Franco as they continue to seek justice today. Filmed over six years and premiering at Berlinale in 2018, this powerful documentary presents a cautionary tale about fascism and the dangers of forgetting the past. In collaboration with the Department of Spanish & Portuguese and the Leslie Center of the Humanities, we look forward to presenting Carracedo's work and connecting her with students across campus.

The fall film program will culminate in a weekend honoring Dartmouth alumni contributions to film and media. This mini-festival (Nov 15-17) will include screenings of alumni and student work, conversations with scholars and artists, parties and more. Details are coming soon, but in the meantime pencil in a toast to Dartmouth's impact on the entertainment industry for this November!
