The Hero's Journey to the Third Pole
A Bipolar Musical Documentary with ElephantsThe Hero's Journey to the Third Pole
A Bipolar Musical Documentary with ElephantsThis artful doc follows two unexpected friends on a journey to make music and raise awareness about mental health. Discussion follows with director Andri Snær Magnason.
You could be forgiven for thinking that the film's title tells the whole story, but that is far from the case. The doc is in equal parts road movie, cri du coeur, an examination of the mind and its dark recesses and a putting-on-a-show extravaganza, starring Icelandic rock star Högni and Anna Tara, who grew up in both Iceland and Nepal.
Together they journey to Anna's childhood home in the mountain jungles to explore the afflictions and superpowers that come with bipolar disorder. Their mission… to raise awareness about the disease and come to terms with the impact it has had on their own lives. Directed by poet Andri Snær Magnason and Anni Ólafsdóttir, this story of unexpected friendship offers an artful, sensitive and amusing examination of mental health.
