Slow and sensual burlesque offers both performer and audience a chance to decelerate, deepen and let pleasure stretch time. In this one-hour immersive session, provocative stripteuse Alyssa Kitt Hanley guides you through the mechanics of tantalisation, the power of pacing and the confidence to take your damn time—onstage, backstage and everywhere in between.
Drawing from somatic breathwork, meditative tactility, disability dance practices and Alyssa's academic work on crip theory and movement studies, this workshop fuses burlesque with sensual moving meditation and intuitive dance. You'll learn to listen inward, discover your own sensual rhythms and craft movement that feels authentic, sexy and sustainable. We'll explore how erotic attention, gestural intention and teasing tension arise when you move inside your own temporality rather than the demands of able-bodied speed.
Perfect for beginners and professionals alike.
Suitable for all bodies, embodiments and movement abilities. Wheelchairs, canes, mobility devices and comfort props are welcomed and celebrated.
What to bring: your fine self, a notebook, comfortable clothes, a small prop (gloves, scarf, elastic fabric), water and (if wanted) a little towel or "stripper blanket." No heels or kneepads necessary.

Fierce, formidable, feminist fatale. Known as the "Siren with the $7million smile," Alyssa Kitt Hanley is the golden-haired dream made of curves and cream. She is a creative powerhouse of burlesque and a critical thinker of striptease culture. Beginning her career in Australia in 2007, she has been at the forefront of shaping the Neo-burlesque revival as an award-winning performer (Queen of Burlesque, Burlesque Hall of Fame competitor 2017, 2022, and 2024 Tournament of Tease judge), teacher, journalist, dramaturg, producer (Mx Burlesque Australia) and Director of the Australian Burlesque Museum. Currently undertaking her PhD in theatre and performance at the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), her research focuses on the politics of erotic performance, burlesque, disability and dance. She is a proud "Disa-burly-teaser," cancer survivor and beauty activist championing facial difference. She is a faculty fellow at Social Practice CUNY and lectures in theatre history at the Graduate Center.
