This raw, resonant documentary road trip across the US asks what it means to be an American.

America Unfiltered: Portraits and Voices of a Nation | Official Trailer | Documentary

Over nine months, immigrant filmmakers Horacio Marquinez and Kirill Myltsev crisscrossed the United States—from desert outposts to the Capitol steps on January 6 to chaotic city corners—capturing the voices of everyday Americans.

With a knack for striking up conversations in unlikely places, they speak with gun shop owners, conspiracy theorists, grieving mothers, undocumented workers, small-town locals and many others. The result: a textured, unvarnished portrait of a country reckoning with itself. America Unfiltered invites us to pause, listen—and find the unexpected threads that bind us.

D: Horacio Marquinez and Kirill Myltsev, US, 2024, 1h34m

Discussion follows.

This screening and the accompanying photo exhibit in the Nearburg Forum (July 1-17) are programmed in collaboration with Dartmouth Dialogues.
