The writer and artist will bring his social justice projects and performance work to Dartmouth this Spring for a three-day residency, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Department.

Creating original pieces since 1992 and performing in over 25 states, sanchez also teaches performance and arts education at the College of Staten Island/City University of New York. He is a Professor in the Performing and Creative Arts Department where he served as the chairperson for 12 years.

During his time here, sanchez will perform In the Court of the Conqueror, the second installment of his series, Performing the Constitution. The performance takes a hard look at the 200 year-old history of US Supreme Court rulings that have diminished the Tribal Sovereignty of Native Nations in Indian Country.

The social justice activist will also visit the Federal Indian Law class taught by Samson Occom Professor of Native American Studies Bruce Duthu, among others.
