Each May, the Hop gathers together its community to show love to (and shower with awards!) Dartmouth undergraduates who have excelled in the arts, delighting us during their four years with great musical, theater and dance performances and marvelous film and video.

This year, we're convening digitally—which means you can join us, whether you're down the street from the Hop, or halfway around the globe! You'll hear an address by Latif Nasser '08, Director of Research at New York Public Radio show Radiolab, and you can connect in real time with fellow viewers via live chat.

These are challenging times, made still more difficult by the fact that we can't gather for the live performances and theatrical film screenings that help us build hope and community. Health concerns also meant cancelling what for Dartmouth's student artists is usually a full term of recitals, ensemble concerts, student theatrical productions, dance performances and more—the capstone to their Dartmouth arts experience. While we know they'll move beyond this and make great artistic contributions in the future, we want to take this opportunity to show these students a little extra appreciation. We hope you can join us!

About Guest of Honor Latif Nasser '08

Latif has done Radiolab stories on topics ranging from snowflake photography to medieval robots, but is most noted for his groundbreaking serialized podcast The Other Latif.  After discovering that a detainee at Guantánamo Bay shares his name, Nasser set out to discover whether his Moroccan namesake, Abdul Latif Nasir, is a martyred innocent or a murderer. Along the way, Radiolab's Latif reflected on American values and his own religious past, and wondered how his namesake, a fellow nerdy, suburban Muslim kid, might have gone down such a strikingly different path.
