Devised Theater Workshop

with Pig Iron co-artistic director Quinn Bauriedel
October 25

An introduction to theatrical devising with an Obie award-winning theatre company.

20/21 Master Class

This two-day virtual intensive is an introduction to devising, a process that upends theater's traditional hierarchies to create a collaborative environment where each participant contributes to the whole. This workshop on "Devised Theatre and Performance" traces the journey from a single creative impulse to a full performance. Learn how to launch an original performance work through Pig Iron Theatre Company's tried-and-true creation processes. Participants rev up their artistic engines through physical, vocal and improvisational structures, using their creative spark to become a raging artistic fire. The workshop culminates with short scenes being performed for workshop participants.

The workshop takes place over Zoom during two 3-hour sessions (10–1 pm ET on Sat, Oct 24 and Sun, Oct 25). Participants must attend both sessions. Open to ages 16+ with some prior theater experience.

This event is free for Dartmouth students and $10 for the general public.

Please email Sam Lazar with any questions.

About Quinn Bauriedel and Pig Iron Theatre Company

Quinn Bauriedel is a founder and co-artistic director of Pig Iron Theatre Company, one of the foremost ensemble-devising theater companies in the country, as well as director of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training.

The mission of Pig Iron Theatre Company is to expand what is possible in performance by creating rigorous and unusual ensemble-devised works; by training the next generation of daring, innovative theater artists; and by consistently asking the hardest questions, both in our art and in its relation to the world around us. Founded in Philadelphia in 1995 as an interdisciplinary ensemble, Pig Iron Theatre Company is dedicated to the creation of new and exuberant performance works that defy easy categorization. In 2011, Pig Iron launched a 2-year graduate program in physical and devised theater; in 2015, the company partnered with University of the Arts to offer both a Graduate Certificate and an MFA in Devised Performance.
