Fall Films

The Hop Experiential Learning Fund provides support for classes to attend one live performance AND one film each term! Every quarter Hop Film presents a mix of acclaimed arthouse, foreign language and documentary titles, as well as films with live guests.

Films ripe for course connections include a documentary about the legal fight against the Florida ban on gender-affirming care (Heightened Scrutiny), a Nigerian film curated by Montgomery Fellow Vinzenz Hediger (Confusion Na Wa), and a documentary about the difficult conversations explored by the family of an October 7th hostage (Holding Liat) with producer Lance Kramer '06 in person. This term also offers influential classics on the big screen, like The Wizard of Oz and Seven Samurai.

There are also a number of free films that may tie into classes! Please tell your students about our silent movies with live organ accompaniment (Nosferatu, The Phantom of the Opera) and Anna Muylaert's latest drama about a resilient mom takes her kids to the streets of São Paulo (The Best Mother in the World), and the Oscar-nominated documentary Black Box Diaries with filmmaker/subject Shiori Ito in person. Also, the Met Opera in HD presentations are free to students and great for connecting with language classes, theater and more!

The Fall film slate is HERE and if you have questions, please contact Peter Ciardelli, Film Program Manager, at peter.a.ciardelli@dartmouth.edu.
