Carnaval

March 06, 2027

Celebrate by learning Casino, an energetic, communal Cuban dance style.

In Cuba, Carnaval is a celebration marked with parades and street performances featuring dance and music. The festivities feature a diverse range of influences and interests rooted in multicultural Cuban history. Although not directly linked to Carnaval, Casino is a Cuban dance style popularized in social clubs.

Casino is an elegant and energetic partner dance that originated in Cuba in the 1950s from son, chachachá and danzón. Rueda de Casino is a fun and dynamic group dance that involves switching partners and performing moves in unison according to a caller.

Registration is encouraged but not required. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

Photographs will be taken at this event. By attending, you agree to be photographed and video recorded. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

UV Casineros is a Cuban dance group in the Upper Valley that was established in 2023 by Warren Kadoya. He first learned about the Cuban dance when he was taking salsa classes in Quito, Ecuador, in 2010. Warren learned from instructors in Los Angeles, California and Portland, Oregon and in 2015, he joined TucSon Casineros. He trained with master Cuban dancers, performed at festivals across the Western US and taught weekly classes to the greater Tucson community for four years. After moving to the Upper Valley, he was inspired by UV Salsa and the need for Latin dance in the area, and ultimately started UV Casineros. He teaches weekly classes with one of his original students, Maggie Cawley, and the help of a dedicated core group of dancers. They strive to foster a welcoming and inclusive class environment. UV Casineros performed at the 2024 Boston Cuban Dance Festival and has participated in various local events over the years. The group also hosts monthly Latin dance socials and connects with Cuban and Latin dance communities in Rutland, where former co-teachers Jano and Julia Rix started their own dance community, as well as Burlington, Boston, and beyond.
