Explore the festival of lights through dance.

21/22 Youth & Families

Join this interactive experience in celebration of Diwali, India's biggest holiday. Diwali has become a national festival observed by both Hindu and non-Hindu communities that honors the victory of light over darkness.

Bharatanatyam dancer Vid. Nithya Ramesh shares the story and the myth behind the artwork "Rama Attended by Sita and Lakshmana" from the Hood Museum of Art's collection and the piece's connection to Diwali. Then, she demonstrates hand gestures, facial expressions and movements that bring the art to life through dance—and invites you to join in!

No prior dance experience or previous knowledge of Indian culture is required to participate. Please wear clothes that allow you to move freely.

This free workshop takes place over Zoom. Advance registration is required.
