22/23 Youth & Families

This workshop for older kids is led by the New Zealand-based company in connection with their dark fairytale The Bookbinder, which uses elaborate pop-up art and shadow puppetry to tell the story of a wayward apprentice getting lost in a book.

In this introduction to pop-up books and paper-art, participants will learn the basic mechanics of pop-ups by making a page from the show, before designing and making a pop-up page of their own.

Recommended for ages 8-12

This event is free and ticketed

Trick of the Light is an award-winning theatre company from Te Whanganui-A-Tara (Wellington) in Aotearoa / New Zealand, founded by Hannah Smith and Ralph McCubbin Howell. They like to make theatre that is playful, inventive, thought-provoking and that speaks to the here and now. Their shows range from dark cross-over works for adults and older children to biting political satire, but are unified by their engaging, nuanced stories, inventive design and belief that theatre should resonate with the wider world.
