Nona Hendryx doesn't follow music's timeline—she rewrites it. As the Roth Visiting Scholar she's in residence at the Hop this summer.
The glam-rock star, Afro-futurist pioneer and boundlessly creative musician is in residence at the Hop as the Roth Visiting Scholar.
Throughout the year she has worked with the DREAM Studio on campus as well as students in Dartmouth's Digital Arts and Sonic Practice masters programs to fine-tune the motion-capture techniques used in her work and develop her Virtual Reality world, the Nonaverse.
2026 Arts at Dartmouth Awards | June 3 Celebrate outstanding Dartmouth student artists with speeches and awards. Featuring keynote speaker, singer, digital artist and Roth Visiting Scholar Nona Hendryx.
Cyboracle in the Nonaverse | June 6-8 Fall into the Nonaverse, an immersive mixed-reality world where you'll be sung to and spellbound by Cyboracle, the Afro-futurist avatar of Nona Hendryx.
Hendryx and her marvelous team of creative and technical collaborators bring us two interactive experiences that transport us into the Nonaverse. For the first part, the audience wears Virtual Reality headsets and interacts with a virtual avatar while Hendryx performs live. In the second part, audience members interact individually with an AI-powered incarnation of Hendryx, who then creates a bespoke Afro-futurist song based on each conversation.
Nightbirds: The Music of Labelle | June 30 Groove on glam-funk and strut your Lady Marmalade stuff. Join us at the Top of the Hop before the show. Voulez-vous danser avec moi, ce soir?
Nona Hendryx, founding member of the pioneering 1970s trio Labelle, brings her funk and Afro-futurist legacy to Dartmouth. Powerhouse singers Kimberly Nichole and Alexia Jayy (The Voice's first-ever Black woman winner) join her in performing Labelle's greatest hits (Lady Marmalade, Nightbirds, What Can I Do For You and more)
