Nominated for all the major Oscars, this psychological noir starring Ingrid Bergman is where the term "gaslighting" comes from.
Dartmouth Film Society 75th
Ingrid Bergman's Oscar-winning performance dominates George Cukor's celebrated psychological noir thriller, one of the greatest suspense films ever made. A young opera singer (Bergman) haunted by the memory of her aunt's murder marries a handsome pianist (Charles Boyer) and settles down in her relative's long-abandoned, overstuffed London mansion, where footsteps echo in the attic, gaslights dim and secrets come to light… Nominated for all the major Oscars, including Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress and Screenplay, it remains a timeless touchstone of 1940s cinema.
