Jon Batiste and Stay Human

October 04

From late-night TV to the Hop!

19/20 Hop Presents

Grammy nominee Jon Batiste is a globally celebrated musician, educator, bandleader and television personality whose musical skill, artistic vision and exuberant charisma have earned him the nickname of "crown prince of jazz." In his role as the bandleader and musical director for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Batiste shares his inclusive brand of "social music" with the world each night. Now he brings that energizing sound to the Hop, accompanied by his sizzling band, Stay Human.

A proud native of Kenner, Louisiana, Batiste comes from a family of musicians; he played drums and percussion with the Batiste Brothers Band as a kid, and he released his debut album at the age of 17, while still a student at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. His follow-up album came while he was a student at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he would eventually meet the members of his band Stay Human. From there, Batiste went on to play in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, and alongside some of the biggest names in pop and jazz (Billy Joel and Wynton Marsalis among them). Though his reputation is global, his artistic philosophy has always been one of one-on-one connection. Batiste is a firm believer in the power of music to uplift humanity.
